Apple Inc.?s latest gadget, the iPad Mini, debuts in the Indian market on Friday with a price tag of 21,900 rupees ($404) for the basic version.
iPad Mini, a smaller version of the iPad computer tablet,? comes with a 7.9-inch multi-touch display, and is 23% slim, and weighs 53% lesser than the iPad tablet.
The tablet computer has a 10-hour battery life for long usage. Aspiring buyers will also get access to the 275,000 software applications from Apple?s iStore.
?So it?s an iPad in every way, shape and slightly smaller form,? screamed a newspaper advertisement by iWorld.
iWorld is Apple?s chain of retail stores that sells premium products such as the iPad Mini.
iPad mini basic verion comes with a 16-gigabit storage capacity, and allows users to access the internet via Wi-Fi networks is priced at 21,900 rupees per piece while the advanced version with 64-gigabit capacity, Retina display and internet access through both Wi-Fi and cellular networks has been priced at 41,900 rupees ($773).
Apple will also start selling its latest fourth-generation iPad in India from Friday, and has priced the base 16-GB Wi-Fi version for 31, 900 rupees ($589) per piece and the most-advanced version at 51, 900 ($958) per unit.
As gadgets and tariffs become cheaper in the world?s second-largest telecom services market, more and more people in India are now accessing the Web through mobile phones and tablet computers. Telecommunications companies have started rolling out high-speed broadband networks enabling faster Internet access.
About 550,000 consumers bought tablets during the three months through June, according to the technology research unit of Cyber Media (India) Ltd. Privately-held Indian technology products manufacturer Micromax Informatics Ltd.?s Funtab computer led the pack with a market share of 18.4% followed closely by Samsung Electronics's Galaxy with a 13.3% share Apple Inc.?s iconic iPad tablets gained a 12.3% share of the market in that period, said a recent study by Cyber Media Research.
