HANOVER, Md. (CBSDC/AP) ? Officials at the Maryland Live! casino plan to hire 1,200 new employees, including 800 dealers, to staff the more than 125 open table games that will be installed next year.
David Cordish, chairman of The Cordish Cos., says the casino will hold four job fairs to help fill the positions.
Candidates selected to work as dealers will attend a 12-week dealer school beginning in January. The Casino hopes to have table games, including blackjack, up and running by early spring.
To make room for the new tables, Cordish says the casino expects to remove less than 10 percent of the current slot machines currently installed.
The chairman said the casino already generates millions of dollars in tax revenue for Maryland each day. He is optimistic that number will increase once table games are running year-round.
In addition to deal positions, the casino is also filling security, IT and construction jobs.
Maryland voters approved the gambling expansion to allow table games last week.
